Checking out at the Grocery Store.

Children's Museum of Wilmington
Grocery Store and International Diner
The immersive environments of the Grocery Store and International Diner encourage children to role-play at grown-up jobs, as they take on the tasks of cashier, grocery clerk, cook, wait staff, and customer.

Venturing into the grocery's large walk-in freezer, visitors find themselves transported to the South Pole, in the midst of a blizzard. A conveyer belt and a speaking tube connect the Grocery Store with the International Diner in the mezzanine upstairs. Cooks in the diner call down for ingredients and a grocery clerk can crank the food up the conveyer belt. A chute system sends food back down to the Grocery Store for restocking. In the International Diner visitors pretend to cook using real appliances.
