Located in one of New London's oldest historic homes, this exhibition tells the story of
the African-American community of Southeastern Connecticut, from the earliest days of
slavery in America through the most significant events American history--including the
Revolutionary War, the abolitionist movement, the Amistad incident, and the struggle
for civil rights.
The exhibition emphasizes thematic stories within the larger chronology by bringing together
artifacts, documents, community photographs, oral histories, audio and video. Highlighted
from the larger themes are stories of individuals of different races who worked toward the common
goal of abolition and, subsequently, civil rights.
