A federal technology agency, the National Institute of Standards and Technology serves as
the nation's civilian technology and measurement expert. Since the breadth of NIST's work
is enormous, part of Wondercabinet's planning and design role in creating this lobby exhibit
was to assist the client in choosing which of the many available stories to detail.
These stories are told within the context of six environmental areas: Automobile Manufacturing,
Semiconductor Manufacturing, Home, Police Station, Medical Clinic and Research Lab.
The environments include science-based mechanical interactives, examples of real technologies,
multi-media interactives, as well as historical stories.
The visitors to the NIST campus come from the fields of business, technology, government and
education, and also include children in school groups. We designed this exhibit to educate all
these visitors in the role of NIST in our community.
