Amazement Square in Lynchburg, Virginia is a new children's museum that anchors the city's downtown
redevelopment project. The six new galleries we designed combine hands-on interactives with rich,
immersive environments. Throughout the museum, exhibits reference the stories, people, history,
art and geography of Lynchburg.
In the Kaleidoscope gallery children are challenged to let loose with creative performances on
stage, in the music studio, and in the Puppet Tree. At the large water table in On the James
visitors learn about the history of the local James River and its unique batteau boat. With
input from the Monacan nation, Indian Island includes a recreated archaeological dig and
elements of a historical Monacan village. Once Upon a Building provides visitors with
hands-on construction and design experiences. Visitors explore their own inner workings
in The Amazing Body gallery. Designed especially for toddlers, the Big Red Barn offers
an array of experiences for the youngest visitors.
